An exhibition I would like to recommend to you:
FACING HISTORY - CULTURAL HISTORY IN DIALOGUE
Interactive Video Art and Greek Mythology
8 June 2019 to 7 June 2020
The statues and busts of the Antikensammlung Bern have come to life ! They talk to the audience and say what they think. Digital media such as speech recognition enable visitors to have a direct conversation with the sculptures. Actresses and actors lend the characters their voices and their faces. In this way they enter into dialogue with the audience. The Greek deities Hermes, Aphrodite, Apollo and Athena can be addressed and questioned via a microphone. In concise video sequences, they answer the audience's questions and provide information about their origin and meaning.
The special exhibition was conceived by the media artists Franticek Klossner and Marc-André Gasser and realized in collaboration with Prof. Dr. Elena Mango and her team in the Collection of Classical Antiquities at the University of Bern. The focus of the exhibition theme is the confrontation with one's own cultural history and present. In a total of twelve interactive video installations, themes such as Greek mythology, the history of philosophy and the cultural diversity of Europe are thematised in a sensual and lively way.
The exhibition was organised as part of the innovation competition for digital cultural mediation and cultural participation. CULTURE.DIGITAL by the Office of Culture of the Canton of Berne. She is under the patronage of Christine Häsler, the Canton of Berne's Director of Education.
